Norma Tolliver Artist Statement

"My work in pastels is an expression of pure joy...a means of communicating a positive and uplifting message."

Norma Tolliver is a retired business executive currently living her dream of full time artist and owner of the Main Avenue Galleria. A self taught artist, she has shown and sold her work professionally since 1999.

Concentrating on her work in pastels, Norma now shows her work on a permanent basis at the Main Avenue Galleria in Ocean Grove, NJ. She also works in acrylics, pencil and watercolor, but her heart and passion are best expressed in pastels.

Norma takes a very painterly approach to her pastel work and views the medium as a means of achieving her vision, with purity of color and limitless blend ability. None of the other mediums offer the same level of satisfaction.

Norma has sold numerous original paintings and prints. Her style is influenced by Van Gough and Monet, but is most definitely her own.

Norma is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America. According to the PSA, "Pastel Society of America (PSA) is the oldest, most important society in America. PSA is largely responsible for the current renaissance of pastels in American art. The society's name is synonymous with excellence."

The Main Avenue Galleria features the work of over 35 local artists. Norma is proud to own the gallery and share her space with artists working in a variety of media. With 80% of every sale going back to the artist, prices at the gallery are some of the most competitive in the area. As a result, her gallery is a much sought after haven for local artists as well as a key destination for art appreciators and collectors. Her goal is to provide a showcase for local artists and make art accessible to everyone.
