William Bunting One warm spring day in 1970, Hazel Bunting took her eight-year-old nephew, William, to her basement art studio in Tonawanda, New York. There she taught him the fundamentals of drawing, and inspired William’s life long love of art. Other members of his family noticed his interest in drawing and encouraged him with gifts of art supplies on holidays, and enrolled him in an oil painting course at the Albright - Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York. His brother John was especially supportive, and became his first patron. In 1982, William Graduated from Bryant and Stratton Business Institute with an associate degree in graphic art, but was soon disenchanted with the advertising business. He felt that his artwork had more expressive potential than the mere promotion of consumer goods. He returned to his original inspiration and enrolled in the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, and in 1996, earned a B.F.A. in painting, and also won the Rhodes Family Award for Outstanding Students. It was at an outdoor art show in 1990 that William exhibited his first automobile painting, Which depicted a broken down wreck for sale. The public responded withenthusiasm, and he knew he had found his subject. Although he goes to great lengthsto capture each authentic detail, he insists that the paintings are not about the carsthemselves. Today William Bunting has won more than sixty awards for his work, including a people's choice award in 2007, and his work hangs in homes and businesses on fivecontinents. He teaches drawing classes in the same manner as his aunt taught him, often referring to the old art masters. He lives in Iselin, New Jersey, with his wife Donna, daughter Tammy, and son, Dennis. " My paintings connect people to a simpler time, when we were more grounded in our relationships, spirit, and environment. They provide a comfortable visual break from lives that are overly filled with information, and lacking in purpose." - William Bunting
