Kim Siracusa Kim Siracusa is a full time elementary art teacher during the day as well as an artist and Middle Eastern Dancer (and dance costume designer) for the rest of her time. Her passion is to inspire her students in all aspects of Fine Art. While she enjoys using all kinds of media in her art and lesson plans, her true passion is fiber arts and crafts. Her pieces are known as batiks (ba-teeks).
A batik can be defined as a method of dyeing a fabric by which the parts of the fabric not intended to be dyed are covered with removable wax. While the true origin of the art is debatable, batik has been practiced for centuries in Indonesia
Kim was introduced to the art of Batik during her undergraduate years at Georgian Court University and instantly took to the beauty of fabric art. Her subject matter ranges from images from nature to tribal to fantasy and spiritual designs. Once her fabric batiks are completed, she includes bead work and crystals to enhance the beauty of her pieces. The batiks are then stretched over a frame and decorated with a unique fabric trim.
Only a resident for two years on the Jersey Shore, Kim is excited to be welcomed in such an artistic community. She wishes to thank her family, friends, and students for inspiring her unique designs.
