Main Ave Galleria

Susan Malcolm I have always been involved with creating art and have fond childhood memories of traveling the Maine coast with my grandmother and "painting" alongside her.

Formerly an Art teacher in Maine, Sue now lives in NJ and makes her living as a printed circuit board designer.

Creating art has always been an important part of my life and some of my favorite materials are clay, glass, wood and fabrics. At the Main Ave Galleria, I display one of a kind fused glass items in stunning, vibrant colors. Fusing glass is a process where two or more pieces of glass are stacked and then fired in a kiln at temperatures between 1100 and 1600 degrees F and slow cooled to ensure strength of the piece. I use opaque, transparent and dichroic glass in many beautiful colors and it’s always a pleasant surprise to open the kiln after it’s cooled to see the amazing results. I love this so much that I have occasionally taken a small kiln on vacation!

In addition to the fused glass items, I also display some painted framed mirrors, stained glass panels and have collaborated with Norma Tolliver on some garden chimes. It’s been a pleasure to be one of the 60-some local artists here and participate in many of the functions and programs.
