Mary Wagner is a self-taught artist who has been painting in pastels since childhood. Her early inspiration came from the ecclectic portraits she found in the National Geographic magazine. Mary's passion for expressing the spirit and culture of diverse people continues today. She also holds a deep interest in the relationship each of us has with our natural and built environments. Creating art around these muses nurtures the artist's sense of wonder, compassion and self-awareness.
Mary was mentored by Mary Padgett, a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and teacher at University College and the School of Art and Design at Syracuse University.
More recently, Mary has been experimenting with various media in abstract form, including watercolor, oil pastel and digital video & collage. Her work is characterized by a bold use of color, strong characters and vital landscapes.
Mary is also a graphic designer and owner of Mary Wagner Design, specializing in environmentally-friendly print and web design. Her graphic arts can soon be viewed at www.mwecodesign.com.
