roozArt – decorative items in polymer clay
Rosalyn Avigdor loves color and design. From an early age she gravitated toward the arrays of color found in palettes of crayons, paints, pastels, colored pencils and markers. It was not until many years later after a successful career in computer technology that she was able to apply her self-taught talents, as ‘roozArt’, to the world of studio craft. Her favored medium is polymer clay, allowing her to ‘paint’ with the colors in the clay. Rosalyn’s trays, bowls, and plates are created from numerous cross-sections of clay canes (or tubes of clay), with a mixture of colors and elaborate patterns running down their lengths. Using this method, one can see the colors and design existing on both sides of each piece.
Coordinated slices from a multitude of canes are assembled in molds and baked to create the final product, enhancing the intricate outcome and often capturing the effect of multi-colored kaleidoscopes. Her work provides a feeling of movement amongst static materials with unusual combinations of shape and color. The intricate detail and complexity of each design make the individual items unique and impossible to replicate.
Having shown mostly in art shows and craft fairs, Rosalyn Avigdor is proud to be part of the Main Avenue Galleria family. Rosalyn lives in New York City, spending weekends at the Jersey Shore, from where her creations evolve.
