Susan Tumblety was born in 1961 in Union Beach into a family of artists. It was a household where painting and drawing were natural acts.
Susan is an award-winning exhibitor and member of the Miniature Art Society of New Jersey. She studied art and exhibited her work in the computer art show in 1990 at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft. In 1992, Susan studied special effects makeup at the School of Visual Arts, NYC, and studied cartooning and airbrush techniques at Joe Kubert School in Dover. She has painted and sculpted props for the Six Flags Great Adventure theme parks, and Custom Creations in New Jersey prop companies.
An award-winning nail artist in the beauty trade, Susan has also published two trade books on nail art. Her art works have been featured in the New York Times, Nails, Nailpro and Airbrush Action magazines, as well as led to her appearing on the Vicki Lawrence TV show in 1997.
Susan worked for the Walt Disney Galleries from 1994 to 1998, when she painted animation scenes on jewelry that was sold in Disney shops throughout the country, including in Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, and in the flagship store in New York City.
Painting in a photo-realism style using acrylics, Susan utilizes art images from photographs she takes of old buildings, signs, rusted cars and locations that give off a creepy vibe. Her latest works are acrylic paintings in 3D that are exact replicas of consumer products of the 1950s and ’60s, down to the subtle details of rips, tears, stains, yellowed tape, staples and price tags. Images include TV dinners, Creepy Crawlers and vintage Halloween costume boxes.
